8. Ice Dams:
Ice dams are caused by warm air leaking through your attic, warming the underide of the roof. The warm air melts the snow and ice accumulated on your roof. Reduce the potential for ice dam formation by sealing all leaks through the attic. Then make sure you have enough insulation in your attic to achieve the R38-R49 levels recommended for Colorado’s cold climate. Attic air leaks are best detected through the use of a Blower Door.
